David Pearson was born in Leicester, England in 1956. At the start of his professional career he worked in industry (British Gas and Marconi) on several diverse projects: fault detection and identification on the natural gas transmission system of the UK, modelling and simulation of the electric transmission of a tank and medical informatics. Following that he worked for 8 years at the Ecole des Mines d'Alès in France as a lecturer/researcher where his applications included the prediction of the half-lives of molecules, prediction of ruptures in a production system and modelling and simulation of forest fires and dispersion of toxic gases. He currently holds a Professorial position at the University Jean Monnet of Saint-Etienne in France. Working at the University Technical Institute of Roanne, he lectures in applied mathematics, statistics and informatics in the commercial studies department and he is the director of the Informatics and Applied Mathematics Research Group (Groupe de Recherche en Informatique et Mathématiques Appliquées GRIMA). His main research interest is quantitative socio-dynamics. Apart from several international collaborations, David Pearson is also a visiting professor at the faculty of informatics of the University of Ulster (Northern Ireland). He has been the principal organiser of two international conferences, one national colloquium and he has participated in the organisation of several international conferences. In terms of scientific production, David Pearson has been the principal author or co-author of a chapter in a book, 17 articles in international journals, 33 articles in international conferences and 2 articles in national colloquia.

Marie-Reine Boudarel is a lecturer/researcher at the University Jean Monnet of Saint-Etienne in France. She works at the University Technical Institute at Roanne in the department of production engineering where she lectures in the theory of information and communication. A member and responsible for the management group of the Laboratory for the Analysis of Signals and Processes in Industry (Laboratoire d'Analyse des Signaux et des Processus Industriels LASPI), her research activities are centred on the analysis of enterprise networks. She is particularly interested in socio-dynamical aspects and competence sharing. Marie-Reine Boudarel participates in the RUMEREQ (réseau des universitaires mondiaux pour la recherche et l'enseignement en qualité) which is a national network concerned with research and education in quality management. She is also a member of the scientific committee of the journal "Forum qualité scientifique" which is edited in Quebec.
