Günter Haag graduated in physics at the University of Stuttgart. In 1982 he was assistant professor at the Department of Economics at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. In 1990 he became professor for theoretical physics at the University of Stuttgart. In the same year he was visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna. From 1993 to 1995 he was managing director of the Institute for Applied Economic Research in Tübingen. He is founder of the Steinbeis Transfer Centre Applied System Analysis and director since 1995. His fields of research are, besides economics, the conception and application of neural networks, the application of non-linear statistical methods to urban and regional development, and the optimisation of production chains via multi-agent systems.

Philipp Liedl wrote his diploma thesis in physics at the University of Stuttgart about nested innovation systems. Since 2001 he is a graduate student in physics and is working at the Steinbeis Transfer Centre Applied System Analysis in the field of non-linear dynamics and neural networks.
