J. Gary Polhill

Gary Polhill did a degree in Artificial Intelligence and a PhD in Neural Networks before spending 18 months in industry as a professional programmer. Since 1997 he has been working at the Macaulay Institute on agent-based modelling of land use and related systems. He is interested in complex systems, social dilemmas, spatially-explicit modelling, and best practice in agent-based modelling, programming and design.

Edoardo Pignotti

Edoardo Pignotti is a Research Student. He received a BSc degree in Computing Science and an MSc in eCommerce Technologies from the University of Aberdeen before spending 18 months in the Fearlus-G project as a research assistant. Since 2005 he has been a research student at the University of Aberdeen working on semantic workflow support for social simulation. He is interested in Grid technologies, scientific workflow, distributed computing and the Semantic Web.

Nicholas M. Gotts

Nick Gotts trained in psychology and artificial intelligence. Until 1996, his research was mainly concerned with qualitative spatial representation and reasoning in humans, other animals, and computers. Since then he has concentrated on complex systems dynamics, particularly on cellular automata, and on agent-based social simulation. Since July 1998 he has been designing and experimenting with agent-based models of land use and water management at the Macaulay Institute, and is particularly interested in ways of comparing agent-based models, and in the relationships between analysis and simulation in the study of complex systems.

Pete Edwards

Peter Edwards obtained his PhD in Computational Chemistry in 1990 from the University of Leeds. Since 1991, he has been a member of academic staff in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen, first as a lecturer and then a senior lecturer. He has published papers on a range of topics in the area of distributed artificial intelligence and intelligent systems. Most recently, his interests have focused on the role of Semantic Web technologies (including RDF and OWL) to enhance service-oriented computing.

Alun Preece

Alun Preece holds a PhD and BSc in Computing Science from the University of Wales, Swansea. He spent 5 years as a visiting researcher in Canada and France before joining the University of Aberdeen in 1994, where he is now a Reader. His research interests focus on supporting the management of knowledge distributed across a network/Web/Grid, using a combination of knowledge-based, agent-based, and Web-based technologies.
